UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW IN ADVANCE

The United team left for Monaco this morning to prepare for Friday night's Super Cup finale against Zenit St Petersburg, but you would forgive them if you found them more focused on who they will get in the Champions League draw at 16.30BST. United have had the bad luck of getting more than capable opponents in the past decade and it will therefore be foolish of anyone to expect a trip to FC Basel or Allborg(Sp). Those are specially kept for Chelsea's group. While we have toyed with AS Roma over the last couple of seasons, they remain,to me, difficult opponents. Sir Alex will have every right to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports if we are pitted with the team from the eternal city for the third draw in a row. Surely the law of averages(assuming that the draws are not fixed) cannot provide for this. The only game that I personally want to see United play at the Olympic Stadium is the final! Athletico Madrid and Villareal are potential banana skins so nobody will want them either, while the likes of Fernerbache showed what they are made of last season. Luis Aragones' team will not be easy to shove. The most interesting bit of the draw however will be which of the top eight seeds will have Bayern Munich and Juventus(both a case of long time no see), as they are not seeded.United's ill fated luck has usually pitted them with the Germans, but again our club's best moment came against the Bavarians. A comprehensive report about the group we shall get will be posted tomorrow. So until then, cheers!
